Melodie Church, Interior Designer, ASID Allied Member I often have many questions for you, as a client, about your family and background. So I think it's only fair to share some of my own story. I was born, Melodie Fern Presley, on September 7, 1957. That makes me 51 at this writing. I was raised in the Eastern part of Catoosa County, commonly known as Keith. It was, and is, a small community.
The children attended Catoosa Consolidated School, which housed one class each of grades 1-8. Although, I didn't know it at the time, my career in Interior Design was taking shape in my very own back yard. My favorite activity was playing house outside by piling up pine straw to build walls that would form the rooms of my houses. The roots of the trees served as great chairs and pillows for the beds. At Ringgold High School, I was exposed to my first Art classes and began to paint in oils and watercolors. It was exciting to discover and nurture gifts and passions that I was unaware of. Upon graduation from RHS in 1975, I attended and graduated from Georgia Southern College (now University) (1979) with a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design. While I have dabbled in various jobs along the way, I was never far from my training. Interior Design remained a constant throughout the years....working in workrooms, design studios, teaching classes for UGA Extension Service and free-lancing. In 1986, my good friend and fellow designer, Cheryl Draa, and I partnered to form Church and Draa Interior Design, located in Powder Springs, GA. Our business grew quickly, expanding into all the neighboring counties, including Atlanta proper. After 10 years together, I left the business to move with my family back to my hometown of Ringgold. I am an Allied Member of the Georgia and National Chapters of American Society of Interior Design (ASID). Being a member in good standing requires completion of Continuing Education Units, as well as, a commitment to follow the ASID Code of Ethics. I have been married to Bob Church for 27 years.
We have lived in a number of towns in Georgia including: Ringgold, Statesboro, Savannah, Baxley, St. Simons, Norcross, and Powder Springs. We have two boys, Rob (19) and Tripp (9). Most of our free time is spent watching them at various activities and sports or preparing them for the next event. We are an active family.....engaged in church, school functions, and community service.
It is important to me that you and I communicate fully. Please feel that you can question me and also to include your ideas in our conversation. My design philosophy is that I am not here to make decisions FOR you, but to guide you and your family in a process that makes you comfortable in your home. That at the end of the day, you can walk through your door and say "ahhh, I'm home".
